5 Burned Oil Rig Workers Being Treated at SAMMC

SAN ANTONIO – Five workers injured in an Eagle Ford shale oil rig fire are now being treated at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

That fire happened around 6:45 p.m. Friday at a Pioneer Natural Resources rig off Highway 97 near Tilden. That’s about 70 miles south of San Antonio.

A Pioneer representative said the five workers were on the rig when fire broke out.

He said other workers put the fire out and called emergency responders to help the injured.

Emergency medical helicopters flew all five to SAMMC last night.

Their conditions are not known.

Pioneer said it’s not clear what caused the rig fire and an investigation is now underway.

The company also said there was no oil spill from the burn site.
